Kingwood is a beautiful and forested planned community in northeast Houston. The strong forests theme means it is a well wooded area with many well aged trees and that is why it is also called "the livable forest".
Much of the land that was to become the Kingwood planned community was originally owned by a company called The Foster Lumber Company. On December 28, 1967, the land was sold to an Exxon subsidiary and Exxon's Friendswood Development Company decided to hire John Bruton Junior to serve as manager for the engineering developing and planning of a new Kingwood community. The community was to be well forested, with shopping centers, churches, schools, writing and hiking trails, etc. In 1970 Kingwood was officially founded with the first village opening in 1971. Since that opening the community has had the slogan "The Livable Forest".
